A 'new' bookshelf

Beginning of a new project... FINALLY

Walking to work yesterday, I saw a bookshelf on the side of the road, to be thrown out.  It was with a car bumper and other miscellaneous 'trash'. And lucky me, it was still there after work, and an hour later when I drove my car to pick it up!

I am going to sand it down, use wood putty to fill in holes and smooth out warps. Then I'll paint it! The legs, I am going to sand down and stain so that they match the rest of my furniture.

I chose the colors that are going to be the focus of my apartment, and judging by the cost of paint, quite a few things are going to end up this burnt orange color!

These are kind of the colors I'm using... The orange and teal are both a little darker, and I'm also using a yellowy-gold color. You'll see, when I put more pictures up.

Here's what my shelf looks like so far...

Right off the street

Disassembled

I'll add some more process pictures, and the final product (when I have one!).

BACK!

So I took off the plastic edges of the shelves, filled in the cutout with wood putty, sanded down the boards and painted the shelves orange!

I don't have a picture of staining the legs, but I sanded and stained them, let them dry overnight, and assembled the next morning.

The Final Product!

I am very happy with it, and found that it's a great way to keep a few odds and ends off of my coffee table! Hopefully this weekend, I will be turning the pallet in the background of the picture into two stools/ottomans.  I also returned that lampshade (it was too dark to put off much light) and got a bigger, brighter one, that I will be sure to include in another post.
